Why a proper check pays off
As an online model or content creator you give an agency access to your work, your content and often your income too. That takes trust. Unfortunately some parties promise quick success, charge fees up front or keep arrangements vague. A few targeted questions prevent a lot of trouble later, and a good agency answers them without hesitation.
The checklist: ten points
- Registered with the KvK, with a real address. Look the name up in the Dutch business register at kvk.nl. Does the company name match, is there an establishment address and does it match what the agency states itself?
- A clear written contract. Arrangements should be set down on paper or digitally before you start. Read what it says about tasks, duration, payment and termination, and take your time to ask questions.
- Transparent commission, agreed up front. You should know in advance what share the agency receives and on what. If an agency stays vague about this or only wants to discuss it later, treat that as a warning.
- Never pay upfront. Registration fees, compulsory paid photo shoots, starter packages or trainings you have to pay for yourself: a trustworthy agency earns from the partnership, not from your entry.
- Clarity about the account and content. Ask who owns the account and your photos and videos, and what happens to your content when you stop.
- A reasonable notice period. You must be able to stop. Check how long the notice period is and whether penalties or obligations apply afterwards.
- Careful with privacy. An agency processes sensitive data, such as your ID and bank details. Ask for the privacy statement and how your data is secured and stored.
- A real person to talk to. Can you speak to someone with a name and a role before you sign anything? An introduction without pressure says a lot about how the partnership will go later.
- Reviews, read critically. Other people’s experiences help, as long as you know what to look for. See below.
- No pressure. You get time to think, can take the contract home to read and don’t have to decide straight away.
Reading model management reviews: what to look for
Searching for reviews or complaints about a model management is a good start, but look beyond the average score.
- Look at the content: do reviewers describe concrete experiences with contact, arrangements and payouts?
- Look for patterns. A single negative review says little; recurring complaints about payments or cancelling say a lot.
- Be careful with many short, glowing reviews posted in a short time.
- See how the agency responds to criticism: calm and to the point, or defensive?
Few public reviews isn’t necessarily a bad sign. Creators who work discreetly don’t always share their experience openly. That is exactly when a personal conversation is valuable: ask your questions directly and see how they are answered.
Red flags
If you recognise one or more of these, keep your distance:
- You have to pay before you earn anything.
- Guaranteed or remarkably high earnings are promised.
- There are no company details or address to be found, only a chat number.
- You are pressured to sign quickly or to share your passwords straight away.
- You are asked for images or your ID in the very first message.
- There is no written contract, or you are not allowed to read it at your own pace.
- The notice period or a penalty clause locks you in, in practice.
How Golden Deals works
Golden Deals BV is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK number 85730351, with VAT ID NL004136855B82 and its establishment address at Stuurboord 10-3, 9206 BK Drachten. Feel free to hold us to the same checklist:
- We work with a services agreement that we confirm together in writing or digitally. Our terms and conditions are public on the site.
- The split of income is set down in advance, personally and transparently. Payouts are weekly or monthly, in consultation.
- You keep the rights to your content. We only use it to manage and promote your profile, for as long as the partnership runs.
- The notice period is one month, unless we agree otherwise together.
- We handle your data in line with our privacy statement. Age verification is part of that: we only work with women aged 21 and over.
- You speak to Johanna, the founder, personally. A first conversation is free of obligation and confidential.
